Title:
DIAMOND-LIKE CARBON COATED DENTAL RETAINING SCREWS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000062704
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
The invention relates to a coated dental screw (14) for retaining and securing components (12, 16) of a dental prosthetic implant stack (10). The screw (14) is coated with a hard carbon coating/film (20) to provide a low friction surface finish which advantageously results in improved preloading of the screw (14), and hence a high clamping force between the components (12, 16) of the dental prosthetic implant stack (10). The coating (20) can comprise diamond-like carbon (DLC), amorphous diamond, crystalline diamond, or a combination thereof. Other advantages provided by the hard carbon coating (20) include high mechanical surface hardness, biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, chemical inertness and low cost.
