Abstract:
A diaphragm air valve and a secondary air-controlling device, provided with the valve, for an internal combustion engine are provided. The diaphragm air valve comprises a valve body (36) operated by a diaphragm (34), two valve seats (37, 38) provided on both sides in a moving direction of the valve body and selectively opened/closed by the valve body (36), and urging means for urging the valve body (36) toward one (37) of the valve seats. The urging means is constructed from a pair of series-connected springs (39a, 39b) with different elastic moduli. The diaphragm air valve is capable of preventing after-burn during rapid deceleration of an engine and leakage of exhaust noise during rapid acceleration, and capable of achieving reliable exhaust gas purification in other operating conditions.
