A diaphragm pump and a valve plate thereof. The diaphragm pump comprises a valve seat (3), a gas nozzle cover body (4), and a pair of valve plates (7a, 7b). A surface of the valve seat (3) is recessed to form a first accommodation slot (31) and a second accommodation slot (32). The first accommodation slot (31) has a first flow channel port (310), and the second accommodation slot (32) has a second flow channel port (320). The gas nozzle cover body (4) covers the valve seat (3). One valve plate (7a) is placed in the first accommodation slot (31), and the first accommodation slot (31) has a geometric shape corresponding to the valve plate (7a); the other valve plate (7b) is placed in the second accommodation slot (32), and the second accommodation slot (32) has a geometric shape corresponding to the valve plate (7b). Each of the valve plates (7a, 7b) has a sealing portion (73) and at least one extension arm (75). The at least one extension arm (75) extends outwards from the sealing portion (73). The sealing portion (73) has two geometric shapes symmetrical to each other, and an end of the at least one extension arm (75) is arc-shaped. A gap is formed between an edge of each of the valve plates (7a, 7b) and the first accommodation slot (31) or the second accommodation slot (32).
