Abstract:
A diesel engine according to the present invention is provided with: a turbine disposed in a discharge passage; a compressor disposed in an intake passage; and a turbosupercharger including a plurality of nozzle vanes disposed around the turbine in such a manner that angles of the plurality of nozzle vanes can be changed in order to control the flow velocity of discharged gas that collides against the turbine. When the ratio between the volume of a combustion chamber at a time when an intake valve is closed and the volume of the combustion chamber at a time when a piston is at the top dead center is an effective compression ratio εe, and the total displacement of the engine is V (L), the effective compression ratio εe is set so as to satisfy the following expression (1). -0.67 × V + 15.2 ≤ εe ≤ 14.8 ....
