Abstract:
A diffraction waveguide device comprises an optical waveguide substrate (1) and a coupling grating (2). The coupling grating (2) is disposed at an end face of a side of the substrate. The coupling grating (2) comprises at least two surface-relief grating layers (20, 21, 22) stacked together. Two adjacent ones of the surface-relief grating layers (20, 21, 22) are supported, in a spaced-apart manner, by an intermediate layer (23) therebetween. The at least two surface-relief grating layers (20, 21, 22) are configured to each diffract a corresponding ray in the light such that the diffracted rays all propagate in the optical waveguide substrate (1). The diffraction waveguide device has a reduced thickness by means of omitting two additional optical waveguide substrates. Accordingly, the invention is helpful for achieving small-sized and low-cost diffraction waveguide devices.
