An arithmetic calculation and output unit in this digital amplitude modulation device is configured as an analog circuit and arithmetically calculates and outputs a protection index for an amplifier, on the basis of synthesized output signals or amplitude modulation signals. As a result, a first protection unit configured as an analog circuit outputs to a control unit a first control signal for turning all amplification units to an OFF control state, on the basis of the protection index. A second protection unit configured as a combined analog circuit and digital circuit outputs, to the control unit and on the basis of the protection index, a second control signal and a third control signal, said second control signal being for controlling the maximum number of amplification units capable of being in an ON control state in parallel and said third control signal being for performing ON/OFF control of the amplification units in the initial state or within the range for the maximum number of units. The control unit performs ON/OFF control of a plurality of power amplifiers, on the basis of input audio signals, the first control signal, the second control signal, and the third control signal. Therefore even if an error causes a sudden change, that change can be tracked in real time.
