Abstract:
In a direct injection diesel engine, a center cavity (13) as a circular recess is formed in the top (4a) of a piston (4), and the engine has an injector for directly injecting fuel into the cavity (13). Auxiliary cavities (14) are formed on the outer periphery side of the top (4a) so as to be connected to the center cavity. The injector is positioned such that the fuel is injected toward the boundaries (17) between the center cavity (13) and the auxiliary cavities (14).
