Abstract:
A directionality determination method for an operation key of an excellent direction detection switch that is capable of detecting key operation in every direction and in which a cursor can be freely moved by the single key. The directionality determination method works as follows: an initial value using a minimum partition region as the unit of the standard for specifying the direction of operation of an operation key based on an input signal, the position of the operation key when it is pressed is detected from the input signal to store the direction of the operation in memory, and an effective operation range composed of minimum partition ranges that include the direction of the operation of the operation key is set by a control section, in which operation of the key switch at a position where it is in the effective operation range is determined to be operation in the same direction and operation of the key switch at a position where it is outside the effective operation range is determined to be a new direction of operation at the position outside the range.
