Abstract:
A disc drive comprising a motor (2) for rotating a disc, a head (3) for recording/reproducing information on/from the disc, a tray (1) capable of selectively mounting first and second cartridges, which have different external shapes and contain discs respectively, transfer means (7, 1k) for transferring the tray (1), a detecting means (4) for detecting the difference of external shape between respective cartridges, a disc cartridge guide (1d) for positioning each cartridge such that the center of each disc contained in each cartridge does not coincide with each other when each cartridge is mounted on the tray (1), and transfer amount varying means(5, 10a, 1g, 1h, 1i) capable of varying the transfer amount of the tray (1) of the transfer means (7, 1k), and transferring the tray (1) up to a position where the center of each disc contained in each cartridge substantially coincides with the center of the motor (2), based on the results from the detecting means (4).
