Abstract:

A technique for coating a disc-shaped tool with an abrasion resisting film, developed in view of the drawbacks encountered in a conventional technique of this kind, and capable of attaining a high durability of such a tool. A disc-shaped tool formed by soldering abrasion resisting tips of a cemented carbide alloy, cermet or an abrasion resisting cast alloy to a disc-shaped base plate of steel, and coating the resultant product with an abrasion resisting film by a physical evaporation method, wherein a range of the disc-shaped tool which is to be coated with the mentioned film is set to not less than 0.75 times the diameter (D) of the disc-shaped base plate, setting this range to not less than 0.85 times the diameter (D) being also permissible, a main component of the abrasion resisting film being a film substance selected from titanium carbide (TiC), titanium carbide nitride (Ti-C-N) having a C/N atom ratio of higher than 0.5 and titanium aluminum nitride (Ti-Al-N).
