Abstract:
A discharge lamp which comprises a glass tube (11) consisting of synthetic quartz glass and having an inner diameter of at least 8 mm, and a pair of filaments (21a, 21b) disposed L (cm) apart at the opposite ends of this glass tube, and which has rare gas and metal including at least mercury sealed thereinside, wherein a voltage V (V) at lighting of the lamp, a lamp current I (A), an inter−filament distance L (cm) and an inner diameter of a discharge path D (mm) satisfy the following relational expressions: (V − Vf)&sol L = X&sol (Ö D× Ö I) and 2.6 ≤ X ≤ 4.2, where Vf is a lighting−power−supply−dependent constant factor, and Vf = 10 at lighting from a high−frequency power supply of at least 1 kHZ and Vf = 50 at lighting from power supply of less than 1 kHZ.
