A discharge lamp for a vehicle usable by easily fitting to any types of lamp devices when a halogen lamp is replaced with a discharge lamp or a discharge lamp is replaced with another discharge lamp and enabling the secure and easy setting and adjustment of the focus position thereof and a method of mounting the discharge lamp. The discharge lamp comprises a lamp body part (110) and a ferrule body part (120). The lamp body part (110) is so formed that the outer diameter dimension of a sleeve (112) is set constant irrespective of the types thereof, and the ferrule body part (120) is formed to have multiple types of shapes according to the type of the accepting port (31) of a reflector (30) and the inner diameter dimension of a through hole (121) is set constant irrespective of the types thereof according to the outer diameter dimension of the sleeve (112). Also, each of the lamp body part (110) and the ferrule body part (120) comprises a coupling means releasably coupling these both parts to each other to complete the discharge lamp (100) and a positioning means restricting the relative positions of these both parts (110) and (120) coupled to each other so that the discharge part (113) of the discharge lamp (100) can be disposed at the focus position of the reflector (30).
