Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a dispersant that exhibits exceptional dispersibility and that does not lower the water resistance of a resultant coating film even when added to a water-based coating agent. The present invention is a dispersant characterized by comprising: a styrene-maleic acid ammonium salt copolymer (A); and an alkylene oxide (C2-4; number of added moles: 10-100 mol) adduct (B) of at least one active hydrogen compound (C1-22) selected from the group consisting of alcohols, carboxylic acids, amines, and amides. The constituent molar ratio (s:m) of styrene units (s) and maleic acid ammonium salt units (m) constituting the styrene-maleic acid ammonium salt copolymer is preferably 80:20-40:60. The content weight ratio (A:B) of the styrene-maleic acid ammonium salt copolymer (A) and the polyoxyalkylene compound (B) is preferably 10:90-90:10.
