Abstract:
A display apparatus 1 comprises: a transparent liquid-crystal panel 2 through which an object placed on the back side is visible from the front side; a first polarizer 6 disposed on one of the front side and the back side of the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2; a light source 4; a light guide element (3, 31, 32) which is disposed on the other of the front side and the back side of the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2 and directs light from the light source 4 toward the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2; a second polarizer 7 disposed between the light guide element and the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2 or between the light guide element and the light source 4 so as not to overlap with at least a part of light that has passed through the light guide element via the object; and a control unit 9 which controls the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2 such that, in a region of the transparent liquid-crystal panel 2 in which video is being displayed, at least a part of incident light emitted from the light source 4 through the second polarizer 7 can pass through the first polarizer 6.
