Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a display apparatus which is capable of providing high contrast to a virtual image observed by an observer, and has a configuration and structure that enable the observer using the display apparatus to move about safely in a real-life environment while clearly perceiving the external environment. The display apparatus of the present invention is provided with: a frame worn on the head of the observer; an image display device mounted to the frame; and a dimming device (700), wherein the image display device is provided with: an image forming device; and an optical device (120) having a virtual image forming area (701) on which the virtual image is formed. The optical device (120) overlaps at least a portion of the dimming device (700), and when the dimming device (700) is operated, for example, the light shielding rate of the dimming device decreases from an outside area and an upper area of an area (701) facing the virtual image forming area toward a central portion of the area facing the virtual image forming area.
