Abstract:
A display device and a drive method, the display device comprising: an edge-lit backlight module (100); a liquid crystal display panel (200) positioned on the light-emergent side of the edge-lit backlight module (100); and a polymer liquid crystal film (300) positioned between the liquid crystal display panel (200) and the edge-lit backlight module (100), and comprising a plurality of closely arranged independent dimming areas (310), each dimming area (310) being configured for independent control of light transmittance. The present display device takes advantage of the characteristics of the polymer liquid crystal film (300), loading different driving voltages in different dimming areas (310) and changing the transmittance of the polymer liquid crystal film (300). Adjustment of the backlight brightness of different dimming areas (310) can be realized without needing to alter the light source, realizing local dimming, and thus increasing the contrast of the display image, improving the visual effect thereof.
