This display device is provided with: a light guide plate 2 which can display multiple patterns (21-1 to 21-9) and which has incident surfaces; multiple light sources (3-1 to 3-9) which are arranged opposite of the incident surfaces and which correspond to each of multiple patterns; a storage unit 5 which, for each of multiple lighting state numbers, stores a reference table indicating a relation between said lighting state numbers and a combination of light sources to be lit; and a control unit 7 which refers to the reference tables to specify a combination of light sources to be lit that corresponds to the lighting state number included in the lighting control information, and which controls lighting and extinction of each light source in accordance with the specified combination of light sources. On one surface, the light guide plate 2 has multiple prisms arranged along each pattern, and light that is emitted from a light source corresponding to a pattern and that has entered from the incident surface into the light guide plate is reflected by the prisms towards the other surface of the light guide plate.
