Abstract:
Disclosed is a display device (100) provided with a backlight (12) and a display panel (20) having red (R), green (G), blue (B), and white (W) sub-pixels within one pixel. Additionally, the display device (100) is provided with a gradient ratio calculating unit (2) which acquires RGB data and calculates the ratio of the lowest gradient relative to the highest gradient among each of the RGB gradients for each pixel, a detecting unit (3) which detects the ratio of the target pixel contained in one frame from the RGB data, a conversion coefficient computing unit (4) which obtains the conversion coefficient for converting the RGB data into RGBW data using the detected ratio, an RGB data converting unit (5) which converts the RGB data into RGBW data for each pixel by using the conversion coefficient, and a display control unit (6) which generates an image to be displayed on a display panel (20) from the converted RGBW data and which displays the aforementioned image.
