Provided are a display device, a display method, a television receiver, and a display control device, with which a photographic subject in an image can be displayed at its actual size by means of processing on the basis of image data, without requiring additional information for the purpose of displaying the subject at its actual size. An image analysis unit uses a facial information database to perform a facial recognition process on image data input via an image input unit, and searches for human facial areas in the input image, and when a facial area is detected, the gender and age group of this person are identified from the facial information database. A magnification ratio calculation unit calculates the magnification ratio for the magnification process to be performed on the image data in order to display the facial area of the person in the input image with a size close to the actual size in accordance with the gender and age group identified by the image analysis unit. On the basis of the magnification ratio calculated by the magnification ratio calculation unit, a magnification processing unit performs a magnification process on the image data input via the image input unit, and the image data that has undergone the magnification process is displayed on a display unit.
