Abstract:
Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device having high luminance and excellent color reproduction properties. The liquid crystal display device (10) comprises: a liquid crystal panel (11) which comprises a pair of substrates (11a, 11b) and a liquid crystal layer (11c) arranged between the substrates (11a, 11b) and comprising a liquid crystal that is a substance having optical properties capable of being varied upon the application of an electric field; and a backlight unit (12) which is equipped with a light source and can emit light toward the liquid crystal panel (11). In the display device (10), a color filter (19) having multiple coloring sections (R, G, B, Y) respectively capable of developing a blue color, a green color, a red color and a yellow color is formed on one of the pair of substrates (11a, 11b) in the liquid crystal panel (11), the backlight unit (12) is equipped with an LED (24) as the light source, the LED (24) comprises an LED element as a light emission source and a phosphor capable of emitting light upon being excited with light emitted from the LED element, and the phosphor comprises at least two phosphor components having different main light emission wavelengths from each other wherein each of the main light emission wavelengths is selected within the range from 480 to 580 nm.
