Abstract:
A backlight (20A) of a liquid crystal display device (1A) is provided with: a plurality of edge-type LEDs (23) for inputting white light from a side end surface (22a) of one light guide plate (22) that corresponds to the area of the liquid crystal display panel (10), and outputting the light from a light output surface (22b) of the light guide plate (22); and a plurality of direct-type LEDs (25) for inputting white light from the rear surface of the light guide plate (22), and outputting the light from the light output surface (22b) of the light guide plate (22). A local dimming control unit (34) is provided, said local dimming control unit controlling the irradiation light amounts of the edge-type LEDs (23) and the direct-type LEDs (25) corresponding to the illuminance of an image to be displayed on the liquid crystal display panel (10).
