Abstract:

A display device for vehicles comprises a liquid crystal panel (10), a light source (40), and control means (50). The liquid crystal panel has specific display pixels (72) and normal display pixels (62). The control means controls the ratio of the gradation value of a normal display pixel to the set gradation value of the normal display pixel as a gradation ratio of the normal display pixel and controls the ratio of the gradation value of a specific display pixel to the set gradation value of the specific display pixel as the gradation ratio of the specific display pixel. The control means has a first mode to allow the light source to emit light and a second mode to allow the light source at a luminance lower than that of the first mode as its set control modes. In the first mode, the control means sets the gradation ratio of the normal display pixel to the maximum ratio and sets the gradation ratio of the specific display pixel at the specific time to the maximum ratio. In the second mode, the control means performs a gradation processing to increase the gradation ratio of the specific display pixel at the specific time so that it is higher than that of the normal display pixel.
