Abstract:
A liquid crystal display device is provided with a white backlight (31), an infrared backlight (32), and a liquid crystal panel (20) containing a plurality of light sensors. The infrared backlight (32) turns on and off at a predetermined timing. A portion of the light sensors detects light when the infrared backlight (32) is on, and the other portion of the light sensors detects light when the infrared backlight (32) is off. The white backlight (31) turns off in association with the portion of light sensors that is detecting light. As a consequence, the effective area of the light sensors contained in a display device is broadened.
