Abstract:
Provided is a display device which can prevent bright light from a light source from penetrating a screen and entering the eyes of a viewer when a dimming element which alternately changes between a transmitting state and a scattering state is used as the screen. The device is provided with a screen (3) which is capable of switching between a state for transmitting and a state for scattering visible light, a projected light detector (2o) which detects the strength of projected light being projected toward the screen (3), a scattered light detector (6) which detects the strength of scattered light that is scattered by the screen (3), and an environment light detector (7) which detects the strength of the environment light around the screen (3). In addition, a computing unit (5) limits the projection of the projected light by turning off the power source for a projector (2) on the basis of the strength of the projected light detected by the projected light detector (2o) and the strength of the scattered light detected by the scattered light detector (6).
