Abstract:
Provided is a compact display device which has a simple configuration and which does not require a dedicated detection electrode for detecting the state of a touch panel. The display device comprises a display unit provided with a touch panel, and an accommodation unit, wherein the display device is characterized in that: the accommodation unit accommodates the display unit; the touch panel includes a plurality of pairs of a main drive electrode and a detection electrode, a detection unit that detects the voltage of the detection electrodes, a drive unit that supplies a main drive signal to the main drive electrodes, and a control unit that controls the operation of the detection unit and the drive unit; the display device further comprises an additional drive electrode that is disposed on the front or rear of some of the pairs, and that forms an additional electrostatic capacitance between the additional drive electrode and the detection electrode according to the accommodation state of the display unit; the drive unit further supplies the additional drive electrode with an additional drive signal that changes the voltage of the detection electrode via the additional electrostatic capacitance; and the control unit further determines the accommodation state on the basis of the change in the voltage of the detection electrode caused by the additional drive signal, and restricts a detection operation of the detection unit according to the accommodation state.
