A display image colour adaptation method and apparatus for use in a head-up display device. The display image colour adaptation method comprises: step S1: on the basis of an acquired colour sampling area image, acquiring colour data of specific sampling points of the colour sampling area, calculating the arithmetic mean or the geometric mean of the colour data of all of the specific sampling points, and using the obtained arithmetic mean or geometric mean as the colour data of the colour sampling area; step S2: on the basis of the colour data, calculating complementary colour data; and step S3: setting the colour of output graphics to a colour corresponding to the complementary colour data or selecting the colour closest to the complementary colour data from amongst preset colours to act as the colour of the output graphics. The present display image colour adaptation method and apparatus for use in a head-up display device improve the degree of recognition of the projected information of the HUD product, improving the ability of the HUD to assist driving safety, and reducing the potential risk of traffic accidents.
