Abstract:
A light source (60) for left and right eyes is disposed behind a display means (30) comprising a transmission display element, pixels (31) for left and right eyes and a first image separation means (32) for left and right eyes through a lens (41) having an action of focusing light onto the display means (30) and a second image separation means (52). A light diffuser (70a) having a function of longitudinally diffusing light is disposed in front of the display means (30). Transmission light from the light source (60) diverges in the longitudinal direction, as shown in the drawing, over the entire display screen. Therefore the viewer can view the image on the display screen even if the head of the viewer is in any one of positions 1-4. The degree of freedom of the head position can thereby be increased in the longitudinal (vertical) direction.
