The disclosed distance measurement device (11) measures a target distance as a distance to a measurement target by means of optically detecting the measurement target. The direction of the light axis of a lens is set in a manner so as to differ from the direction of progression of incident light from the measurement target. The lens is configured in a manner so as to obtain an image of the measurement target by means of forming an image from the incident light. The distance measurement device is provided with: an image-formation relative-value calculation means (31, 32) that calculates an image-formation relative value—as a value that indicates the relative relationship between image-formation positions—by means of determining image-formation positions indicating the position of an image with respect to the lens for each of a plurality of wavelengths that the incident light has; a recording means (17) that, in a manner so as to indicate the correlation between the image-formation relative value and the target distance, records correlation information (18) as information defined by the direction of the light axis and the chromatic aberration characteristics of the lens; and a distance calculation means (33) that calculates the target distance by means of matching the image-formation relative value to the correlation information (18).
