Abstract:
A distance measuring device and a distance measuring method both for measuring the relative distance to an object on the basis of an image even at night. The distance measuring device is provided with an image capturing means for capturing an image of the scene in front of the traveling car as a captured image, a determining means for determining a combination of the positions on the captured image of the direct light shown on the captured image and the reflected light thereon of the direct light reflected from the surface of the road being traveled, and a measuring means for measuring the relative distance to an object on the basis of the position of the direct light and that of the reflected light of the combination determined by the determining means.
