Abstract:
A distributed compressed air storage system and method is described. A compression facility (204) is configured to compress air and provides the compressed air to a pipeline (232). The pipeline (232) is coupled to the compression facility (204) and is configured to transport compressed air from the compression facility (204) to a compressed air storage facility (208) that is remote from the compression facility (204). A heat recovery unit (230) is coupled to the compression facility (204) and is configured to recover heat produced by compressing air in the compression facility (204). The compressed air storage facility (208) is configured to store compressed air received from the pipeline (232) and is located remote from the compression facility (204). An expansion facility (206) is configured to receive compressed air from the compressed air storage facility (208) and expand the compressed air to generate electricity.
