Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention

[12] Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are described with reference to the accompanying drawings in detail. The same reference numbers are used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts. Detailed descriptions of wellknown functions and structures incorporated herein may be omitted to avoid obscuring the subject matter of the present invention.

[13] The facial expression of a doll can be changed by tilting distal ends of the eyes and mouth: smile expression when the distal ends of the eyes are tilted up and the distal ends of the mouth are tilted down and angry expression when the distal ends of the eyes are tilted down and the distal ends of the mouth are tilted up. Particularly, the female doll can be manufactured so as to express its emotion with the facial expression, while the male may not.

[14] FIGs. 1 to 6 are drawings illustrating face contours of a doll according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The head is separated from the trunk of the doll and then is divided into a front half, i.e, the face, and rear half. The face includes a pair of eyes, a noise, a mouth, a pair of ears. Each eye is provided with a distal end 11 and the mouth is provided with a pair of distal ends 13.

[15] The eyes and mouth are pinpointed in the middle to pivot on the pinpointed axis such that the distal ends 11 and 13 of the eyes and mouth can tilt up and down. The face is provided with guide grooves 21 for guiding the tilting movement of the distal ends 11 and 13 of the eyes and mouth. The distal ends 11 and 13 of the eyes and mouth are connected to a rod 19 by means of link mechanism such that a gear mechanism 23 drives the link mechanism to move the rod 19 up, when the face turns left on an axis of the rod 19, so as to tilt the distal ends 11 of the eyes up and the distal ends 13 of the mouth down for angry expression, and the gear mechanism 23 drives the link mechanism to move the rode 19 down, when the face turns right on the axis of the rod 19, so as to tilt the distal ends 11 of the eyes down and the distal ends 13 of the mouth up for happy smile expression.

[16] The link mechanism is provided with a central rod 15 which is vertically arranged

in a rear space of the face and a pair of rotators 17 that are pivotally connected to the central rod 15. The rotators 17 are connected to the distal ends 11 and 13 of the eyes and mouth by means of the rods 19 so as to move the distal ends 11 and 13 according to the rotation direction of the head of the doll, resulting in change of facial expression. The face are combined with the rear part of the head and sealed. The head and other accessories are fixedly attached to the trunk and then clothes are put on such that the doll is manufactured.

[17] Although exemplary embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail hereinabove, it should be clearly understood that many variations and/or modifications of the basic inventive concepts herein taught which may appear to those skilled in the present art will still fall within the spirit and scope of the present invention, as defined in the appended claims.
