A looper thread trapping and cutting part with blade is formed on the edge at the tip of a movable knife, and at positions in front and behind one another in the direction of reciprocating drive movement of the movable knife, on the edge and further towards the base of the movable knife than this looper thread trapping and cutting part with blade, are formed: a bladeless needle thread trapping unit that traps by catching the part of the needle thread protruding to the back side of the sewing fabric during the downward movement of the movable knife and in this state transfers the thread to a position further past the blade part of a fixed knife, and a needle thread cutting blade part that cuts, by sliding against the blade part of the fixed knife, the needle thread fed by the bladeless needle thread trapping unit to a position further than the blade part of the fixed knife. As a result of this configuration, it is possible to provide a thread-cutting device for double chainstitch sewing machine which, by reliably feeding the needle thread part that protrudes to the rear side of the sewing fabric when sewing is completed, to a predetermined cutting position, makes it possible to cut to a uniform stable remaining thread length, and to ensure an end of sewing part that has a good and uniform finish and appearance.
