Description:
DOUBLE LENS LED LIGHT COLLIMATION SYSTEM WITH ADJUSTABLE BEAM ANGLE

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a lighting device for lighting purposes whereby the beam angle of the light is controlled and adjusted as desired, and to the lighting method thereof.

The present invention particularly relates to a lighting device that comprises multiple lighting sets consisting of a LED light source, a plurality of lenses, and a movement mechanism for moving the lens.

STATE OF THE ART

In the state of the art, there exist many different types of devices used for lighting. The optical systems comprised by such devices have some disadvantages, and thus they cannot offer the desired efficiency in terms of controlling the beam angle and distribution of the light. Although it is not of much importance that a device, to be used for a regional lighting and for lighting the angle of vision, can adjust the light distribution evenly or can control the beam angle, it becomes important to perform lighting as desired when different areas of use are taken into consideration. For instance, it is of great importance that the lighting devices for military use in defense industry can be readily controlled by the user at desired parameters.

In the existing applications in the state of the art, the collimation of light is tried to be achieved as a result of using the light source with (LED) reflector and lens. In these systems, however, a large part of the light is distributed in an undesired manner; furthermore, halo effect and various light inefficiencies are frequently experienced. Apart from that, in lighting device designs of the applications used in the state of the art, there exist no configuration that automatically permits changing the angle of vision (beam angle) of the light effectively. These existing applications are not in parallel with the advancing technology and have some technical shortfalls.

In the existing applications of the state of the art, the following are used as the second optic along with the light source: plano-convex lens, TIR (total internal reflection) lens, reflector, or reflector and lens at the same time. The disadvantages of such applications are listed below.

LED + Plano-convex lens: Operating at low yields and inability of downsizing the physical sizes suitable for narrow lighting angles • LED + TIR: Lack of adjustability of the angle of vision (beam angle) of the light

• LED + Reflector: Inhomogeneity of the lighting pattern, and the disadvantage regarding the physical size

LED + Reflector + Lens: Inhomogeneity of the lighting pattern and the inability to efficiently adjust the angle of vision (beam angle) of the light.

Consequently, due to the aforementioned drawbacks and insufficiency of the current solutions regarding the subject matter, a novelty and development have deemed necessary in the related technical field.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention, inspired by the current situations, aims to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above.

The object of the present invention is to provide a lighting device with a scalable configuration whereby the beam angle of the light is easily controlled by the user and a powerful lighting is achieved.

The lighting device and lighting method according to the invention is used for purposes including illumination, search, rescue, signing, night vision illumination, and distraction in case of counterattacks, in military platforms such as land vehicles and vessels, armored vehicles, security vehicles, security facilities, and high-priority military points.

The lighting device and lighting method according to the invention ensures that an area not wished to be illuminated and an area that is desired to be illuminated can be simultaneously lighted and not lighted, respectively.

The present invention particularly aims at providing a lighting device that can be used for searching such that the angle of vision (beam angle) of the light is adjustable in military areas.

The invention, with a view to achieving the objects mentioned above, is a lighting device (C) used in lighting industry, wherein it comprises a plurality of lighting sets (2.1 ) comprising:

• at least one LED (2.1 .3) for converting electrical energy into light,

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the invention are described only for a better understanding of the subject matter, without any limitations.

The invention, to be used in applications which require intensive and powerful lighting and in which characteristics such as beam angle adjustment is sought for, relates to a lighting device (C) eliminating the drawbacks of the existing systems and developed for offering new advantages in the related technical field.

Said lighting device (C) basically comprises a device body (1 ) which serves as a body which accommodated thereon all the equipment of the invention and a device surface (2) on which a plurality of lighting sets (2.1 ) are located. Said device surface (2) is in the form of a screen which accommodates thereon a plurality of lighting sets (2.1 ) and it is secured in said device body (1 ). Fig. 4 illustrates the perspective view of said lighting device (C).

Said lighting set (2.1 ) comprises at least one LED (2.1 .3) for converting electrical energy into light, a first lens (2.1 .1 ) that collects and transmits the light coming from said LED (2.1 .3) to the second lens (2.1 .2), a second lens (2.1 .2) that collects and transmits the light coming from the first lens (2.1 .1 ) at the desired location depending on the distance between the lighting area (3) and the lighting device (C), a movement mechanism (2.1 .4) that enables moving the second lens (2.1 .2) in the light axis (x), a movement control unit (2.1 .5) for controlling said movement mechanism (2.1 .4), and a LED driver (2.1 .6) for regulating the current required for said LED

(2.1 .3). Also provided is a power connection (2.1 .7) for the LED driver (2.1 .6) and the movement control unit (2.1 .5). Said lighting set (2.1 ) that consists of an LED (2.1 .3), a first lens

(2.1 .1 ), a second lens (2.1 .2), a movement mechanism (2.1 .4), a movement control unit (2.1 .5), an LED driver (2.1 .6), and power connection (2.1 .7) is disposed on the device surface (2).

An LED (2.1 .3) is the diode that emits light when current passes there through. The light emitted by said LED (2.1 .3) is collected by the first lens (2.1 .1 ) and transmitted to the second lens (2.1 .2). At this point, the distance between the first lens (2.1 .1 ) and the second lens (2.1 .2) is important. Therefore, the movement mechanism (2.1 .4) makes the second lens (2.1 .2) move in the light axis (x) and changes the distance between the first lens (2.1 .1 ) and the second lens

(2.1 .2), and hence the beam angle of the light. Thus, a narrow or large beam angle is achieved. It is the movement control unit (2.1 .5) that drives the movement of said movement mechanism

(2.1 .4). Said movement control unit (2.1 .5) is a mechanism preferably consisting of a motor and stud bolt . The second lens (2.1 .2), the location of which is changed by means of the movement mechanism (2.1 .4), transmits the light coming from the first lens (2.1 .1 ) to the lighting area (3). The LED driver (2.1 .6) serves for regulating the current required for the LED

(2.1 .3).

In a lighting set (2.1 ), the LED (2.1 .3) starts emitting light by the current coming from the LED driver (2.1 .6). The incoming light is collected by the first lens (2.1 .1 ) and transmitted to the second lens (2.1 .2). Driven by the movement control unit (2.1 .5), the movement mechanism (2.1.4) moves the second lens (2.1.2) at the light axis (x), thereby defining the magnitude of light within the lighting area (3). The beam angle of the light can thus be controlled. When said second lens (2.1.2) is approached to the first lens (2.1.1 ), the lighting area (3) becomes larger. With a plurality of lighting sets (2.1 ) disposed on the device surface (2), a powerful light, the angle of which is adjustable, is obtained.

The surfaces of the first lens (2.1.1 ) and the second lens (2.1.2) disposed in the lighting set (2.1 ) are aspherical in order that a homogeneous lighting pattern can be obtained in the lighting area (3). The materials in aspherical form, whose conic constant and radii of curvature along the surface are variable by nature, are generally used for high homogeneity and prevention of aberrations.
