Abstract:
Provided are: a hole formation method with which it is possible to form high quality holes even in cases in which the work material is a difficult-to-cut metal material or a fiber-reinforced composite material; and a drill bit to be used in this method. The drill bit 1 is provided with at least one cutting edge 10, and a leading flank 20 adjacent to the cutting edge 10. The surface roughness Ra of the leading flank 20 is set in the range of 2.0 μm to 3.0 μm inclusive. The hole formation method includes a hole formation step in which a hole is formed by cutting the portion to be processed of the work material W by means of drilling while bringing a cutting aid lubricating material 2 into contact with the drill bit 1 and/or the portion to be processed, and the drill bit 1 is used in the hole formation step.
