Abstract:
A thread protector adapted for protecting drill pipe threads. The protector
is comprised of an anti-impact outer shell (10) which embraces and is affixed
to a plastic member (8). A buffer area (4) is formed at the top of the plastic member
(8). The wall of the plastic member (8) is provided with threads (11) which mate
the threads on the drill pipe. Loading holes (7) are positioned on the excircle
at the top of the outer shell (10). Seal ends (6) and closed volumes (5) filled with
lubricant oil for threads are provided at the two ends of the joint where the plastic
member (8) and the drill pipe join. Bosses (9) for standstill pierce the outer
shell (10) and extend into the plastic member (8), so the outer shell (10) and the
plastic member (8) can be more firmly secured. The present thread protector can
protect the drill pipe threads more effectively.
