Abstract:
The purpose of the invention is to provide a display device equipped with a backlight, the device being capable of delivering both improved responsiveness and reduced image degradation. A drive circuit (12) drives a liquid crystal panel (40) and a backlight unit (60); the liquid crystal panel (40) including a plurality of pixels (42) and being preset with critical light transmittance data that is minimum light transmittance data (K) where the response time of each of the pixels (42) associated with the input of an input image (G) is within a reference time; and the backlight unit including a plurality of LEDs (64). The drive circuit (12) comprises: a first calculation circuit (20) in which the input image (G) is divided into a plurality of areas (E), and brightness data (K) that indicates the brightness of the LED (64) corresponding to each of the areas (E) is calculated on the basis of the input image (G) that corresponds to each of the areas (E); and a second calculation circuit (24) in which light transmittance data (H) that indicates the light transmittance of the pixels (42) is calculated on the basis of the input image (G) and the brightness data (K). In the drive circuit (12), the second calculation circuit (24) calculates the light transmittance data (H) so that the light transmittance data (H) is equal to or greater than the critical light transmittance data.
