Abstract:
The present invention relates to a drive control apparatus for an electric motor, and a method for controlling the electric motor. The present invention suppresses generation of electric brake, while protecting a semiconductor relay from an excessive surge voltage. This drive control apparatus is configured by including: a drive circuit that drive-controls an electric motor; a semiconductor relay, which is disposed on a drive line between the drive circuit and the electric motor, and which interrupts power distribution to the electric motor from the drive circuit; and an active clamp circuit, which turns on the semiconductor relay when a difference between a potential on the drive circuit side of the semiconductor relay and a potential on the electric motor side of the semiconductor relay becomes equal to or more than a predetermined value.
