According to this elongating/contracting drive device, a rotation drive member which is rotated and driven by the drive force of a driving unit, a drive force transmitting member which is connected to a leading end of an inner cylinder, which is driven by the rotation drive member, and which moves along the direction of the rotational axis of the rotation drive member, and an elastic member which is disposed on the outer circumference of the drive force transmitting member, which is connected to the leading end of the inner cylinder, and which applies urging force to the drive force transmitting member in the direction of the rotational axis, are housed in the inside space of an outer cylinder and the inner cylinder. An intervening member (24) is disposed on the outer circumference of the inner cylinder so as to be present between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. The intervening member (24) is formed by a plurality of components (31a, 31b) the length of which extends along the lengthwise direction of the outer cylinder, and the component (31a) is configured to be movable relative to the other component (31b) so that the intervening member (24) opens outward. Hence, occurrence of a sliding problem originating from the deformation of the intervening member (24) and occurrence of interference problem, etc., can be suppressed.
