Disclosed is a drive device that is for a hybrid vehicle and that can increase both quick responsiveness and fuel efficiency. The drive device (1) that is for a hybrid vehicle is provided with an idling operation necessity determination unit that determines the necessity of an idling operation of an engine (6) when the requested drive force of the vehicle is less than the drive force of the idling operation of the engine (6). When the idling operation has been determined to be unnecessary by the idling operation necessity determination unit, a first clutch (42) and a second clutch (42) are disconnected and driving is possible in EV driving, and when the idling operation has been determined to be necessary by the idling operation necessity determination unit, the engine (6) is operated in the idling operation and at least one of the first clutch (42) and the second clutch (42) is connected.
