A drive transmitting belt having an encoder, wherein, although simply constructed, the drive transmitting belt can be suitably used as a drive transmitting belt and can accurately transmit information relating to detection of rotation, which information includes elongation of the belt.  A method of manufacturing the drive transmitting belt is also provided.  The drive transmitting belt includes, in a part of a belt layer structure (1) thereof, a band-like magnetic rubber layer (5) extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt layer structure.  The surface of the magnetic rubber layer (5) is exposed to the surface of the belt layer structure (1) and is configured to be a multi-pole magnetized surface (5a) on which N-poles and S-poles are alternately arranged at equal intervals in the longitudinal direction of the belt layer structure (1).
