Abstract:
Provided is a driving assist device for a vehicle, which is capable of properly reducing the driving burden on a driver by displaying a virtual preceding vehicle that gives little uncomfortable feeling. The driving history of a driver driving a vehicle (10), that is, a traveling history (80) of the vehicle (10) is stored in a traveling history database (52). A traveling pattern of a virtual preceding vehicle (14) is generated on the basis of the traveling history (80), and the traveling state of the virtual preceding vehicle (14) is determined on the basis of the generated traveling pattern of the virtual preceding vehicle (14). In short, the traveling state of the virtual preceding vehicle (14) is determined on the basis of the traveling history (80). Accordingly, it seems to the driver that the virtual preceding vehicle (14) is traveling in accordance with the driver's own driving characteristics or driving characteristics similar thereto, and therefore the driver does not tend to experience an uncomfortable feeling when driving the vehicle (10) with the intension of following the virtual preceding vehicle (14). Consequently, the driving burden on the driver can be properly reduced.
