Abstract:
This driving assistance apparatus (10) is provided with: a traffic lane change detection unit (11) for detecting that a traffic lane change is expected to be performed; a traffic lane specifying unit (12); a first space determination unit (13) for determining whether or not a passable space (Ar0) is present; and an operation control unit (15). The traffic lane specifying unit (12) uses results detected by a boundary line detection unit for detecting a first boundary line (WL1), between a traffic lane (Ln1) prior to a lane change and a traffic lane (Ln2) into which a lane change is expected, and a second boundary line (WL2), which as a boundary line defining the traffic lane prior to a lane change is positioned on the opposite side as the first boundary line, and specifies the traffic lane prior to a lane change and the traffic lane into which a lane change is expected. When it is detected that a lane change is expected and determined that a passable space is present, the operation control unit instructs a user's vehicle to perform a gap narrowing operation, which brings the user's vehicle close to the traffic lane into which the lane change is expected, before performing the lane change.
