Provided is a driving assistance device (1) with which driving with a vehicle (3) which travels upon a road is assisted. With this device, a road travel lane is detected with travel lane detection means (5, 25). If the travel lane cannot be detected, previously detected travel lanes are extrapolated and a resulting extrapolated travel lane set by an extrapolation means (25). On the basis of the distance to a vehicle in the previously detected travel lane and/or the lateral velocity of the vehicle, a length of time for setting the extrapolated travel lane is established by an extrapolation time establishment means (25). A determination is also made by a deviation determination means (25) as to whether the vehicle is deviating from the detected travel lane or the set extrapolated travel lane within a preset reference time. Driving assistance is effected according to the determination results.
