Abstract:
Provided is a driving support device that: provides information from signs for a road upon which a vehicle is traveling, when the vehicle approaches a sign arranged in the vicinity of a plurality of roads; and suppresses the provision of information from signs that are not for the road upon with the vehicle is traveling. This driving support device detects signs from a video obtained from an imaging device mounted to the vehicle traveling the road, and includes: information displayed by the detected sign, being the sign that was detected; a sign recognition means that recognizes a first relative position, being the position of the detected sign relative to the road; a map data storage means that stores a second relative position, being the position of the sign relative to the road; a sign position determination means that determines the conformity between the detected sign and the map sign being a sign having the second relative position thereof stored by the map data storage means, said determination being made by determining the conformity between the second relative position and the first relative position; and an output means that outputs the information displayed by the detected sign, if a determination has been made that the detected sign and the map sign match.
