Abstract:
A dual barometer system (100) comprises a mobile unit (200) and a reference unit (300), each having a barometric pressure sensor (210, 310). The barometric pressure sensor (210) at the mobile unit (200) can measure the local atmospheric pressure at the location of the mobile unit (200), while the barometric pressure sensor (310) at the reference unit (300) can measure the reference atmospheric pressure at the location of the reference unit (300). The two barometric pressure sensors (210, 310) can be configured to be subject to substantially similar effects of weather on atmospheric pressure measurement. The altitude of the mobile unit (200) may be determined based on both the local and reference atmospheric pressure measurements, wherein the reference atmospheric pressure measurement is used to correct the estimation of altitude of the mobile unit (200) based on the local atmospheric pressure measurement.
