A dump car in which a load box (10) is tiltably provided on a vehicle frame (2). A gate door (12) forming a side wall of the load box and opening at its lower edge has an outer frame body (15) having a lower edge opening structure and a gate body (16) with a side opening structure for closing the inner space of the outer frame body (15). The dump car has an automatically releasing type lock mechanism (30) for retaining the outer frame body (15) when the load box (10) is lowered and automatically releasing the outer frame body (15) from locking when the load box (10) is tilted. The dump car further has a changeover lock mechanism (40) having lock members (41, 42) provided on a gate body and locking the gate body, a lock member (43) provided on the outer frame body (15) and locking the outer frame body, a support member (44) provided on the outer frame body (15), and a lever handle (45) supported by the support member (44) and capable of selectively engaged with the lock members (41, 42) or the lock member (43). Convenience in load handling work is enhanced, with highly convenient dump discharge operation provided by the lower edge opening structure of the gate door (12) kept. Also, operability of locking and lock release operation of the gate door is enhanced.
