Abstract:
Disclosed is a dust core and a method of manufacturing thereof, wherein, even when the surface of a heat treatment compact is ground, insulation between soft magnetic particles is maintained at the grinding face during that grinding process. The method of manufacturing a dust core is provided with: a preparation process for preparing a heat treatment compact (100) that is attained by compressing and molding soft magnetic particles having insulation covers, and heating the obtained compressed-powder compact to a prescribed temperature; and a processing process for removing a portion of the heat treatment compact (100) with a processing tool (2). This processing process is conducted by using the heat treatment compact (100) as an anode, and using the processing tool (2) for mechanically processing the heat treatment compact (100), or a first opposing pole (5) arranged in opposition to the processing tool (2) with a gap interposed therebetween, as a cathode, and applying current between the anode and cathode with a conductive liquid (7L) interposed therebetween. This application of current removes bridge sections that connect the adjacent soft magnetic particles at the processing face of the heat treatment compact (100).
