Abstract:
Provided are: a dye comprising a leuco dye from which an excellent developed color density and a bright hue are obtained; a thermochromic pigment-containing microcapsules utilizing the color development/color removal mechanism of the dye; and an ink composition which is for a writing instrument and which contains the pigment-containing microcapsules. This dye is characterized by comprising a leuco dye represented by formula (I) (in formula (I): R1 and R2 each represent an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, and may be the same or different; one of three R3's is a –OH group (hydroxy group), and the remaining two are hydrogen atoms). The pigment-containing microcapsules are characterized by containing at least the dye, a developer, and a discoloring temperature adjusting agent. This ink composition for a writing instrument is characterized by containing the pigment-containing microcapsules.
