Abstract:
An improved ear piercing system having a healing grommet (12) with a cannula member (10) detachably mounted thereon. In such embodiment the grommet (12) may be formed of a flexible biocompatible material such silicone and may be formed to have self anchoring properties. The grommet (12) is formed with a collar or flange member (22) at the proximal end allowing the grommet (12) to be easily grasped and rotated intermittently as is critical to healing. The grommet (12) allows individuals to change jewelry namely earrings (14) or hoops immediately following piercing, and throughout the extended healing process.
