Abstract:

Earthquake prevention unit for protecting a precision instrument against vibrations when an earthquake occurs. It is technically important that this unit be so constructed as to prevent vibrations from being transmitted to an object instrument, and enable the instrument to exhibit its functions in full without causing any interruption thereof. To meet these requirements, lateral vibrations are attenuated and absorbed by a disc vibration absorber (5, 6), through the central portion of which a support post (3) for use in fixing thereto a base plate (14) on which an instrument (21) is mounted pierces, which absorber is made of an elastic material having a plurality of through holes (11) arranged symmetrically with respect to and concentrically with the central portion of the absorber, and a laterally movable slide means (8, 9); while vertical vibrations are attenuated and absorbed by vertical slide means (16, 17), coil springs (18), vibration absorbing dampers (19) and an attitute control means (20).
